SolarWorld and SunPower: What We Know

In keeping with our practice of staying current with industry news, we want to provide an update regarding what we know about the unexpected and impending acquisition of SolarWorld Americas by SunPower.

While this deal remains in negotiations, it appears that SunPower plans to complete a 100% acquisition of the Hillsboro, OR based SolarWorld.  Apparently the production facility will continue to manufacture SolarWorld’s legacy products, growing it’s capacity for U.S. manufacturing.  A purchase price has not yet been named, but it is apparent that SunPower will invest fresh capital in the Hillsboro manufacturing facility.  SunPower CEO Tom Werner has described SolarWorld as “one of the most respected manufacturers of high-quality solar panels for more than 40 years.”

For the better part of a decade, our DC Solar Electric team has been proud to partner with SolarWorld Americas, and we are honored to be a Platinum Installer.  Chasin Scott, DC Solar Electric Vice President has said “Since the inception of DC Solar, SolarWorld has played a huge part of our successm and DC Solar will always believe and stand behind SolarWorld and their products.”

We look forward to keeping our DC Solar customers and family appraised of this merger.
