The First Charter School To Have a Large Scale Solar System in Nevada County
NEVADA COUNTY, CA – August 12, 2020 – DC Solar Electric Inc., your second-generation family company solar solution partner in Northern California, is pleased to announce a landmark project in Grass Valley. The Company, which is under contract with Yuba River Charter School, has finalized plans and is arranging for construction to begin later this year.
From the onset of the project discussions, the school wanted a campus that was aligned with Waldorf principles. This approach includes buildings that are environmentally friendly, so solar was part of the plan from the start. During the initial planning stages, David Clouse, DC Solar Electric’s Commercial Division Business Development Manager, worked with an architectural firm that provided information on the estimated roof space needed for the solar system, calculated weight loads for the roofs, and added an underground conduit system needed to tie together the arrays located on separate roofs. In the end, the final design for the school includes over 200 leading-edge technology solar panels spread over two building rooftops on the Grass Valley campus.
“I first began working with the school over eight years ago when my son was a student at Yuba River Charter School with teacher Paula Barber,” said David Clouse. “At the time the new campus was still an idea in the making, so it’s amazing to see everything come together. When I joined DC Solar Electric last year and learned about the product line and level of service, as well as the Company’s involvement in non-profits and schools, I knew it was a great match. In short; it is incredibly delightful for us to be aligned with the vision of YRCS, and through the public bidding process we were awarded the bid.”
“Our decision to invest in renewable energy will support a sustainable future for the families and children we serve now and well into the future. We will utilize this solar power integration as a way to educate young people to embrace and understand environmental solutions. It is gratifying to offer respect to those on this land before us and work towards continued protection while lowering our costs with enhanced efficiencies and infrastructure. We are proud to partner with DC Solar Electric in driving their solar initiative and adding to the momentum to the growing and solid case for solar energy,” explained Yuba River Charter School Director Barbara Linares.
The final solar system worked out to have a cash payback period of fewer than 4 years. The Company connected the school to a finance program that allowed Yuba River to obtain the solar system with a monthly payment plan, which is less than what the school had been paying each month directly to PG&E. The savings are substantial. The annual savings after the system is paid in full will be over $27,000 in just the first year. The 25 years projected return on investment is almost 30% with estimated savings totaling over $1,000,000.
DC Solar Electric is committed to providing the exact solar design to fit your needs, whether residential or commercial and will match or beat any price. The Company’s warranty is well known throughout the county- our unbeatable warranty covers a 25- year bumper to bumper on all the equipment coupled with a lifetime warranty on the workmanship and installation.
