HOW Solar Saves You Money During the Holidays!

With all the Christmas lights, decorations, and increased power use for the holidays, it’s good to be the one that has solar. That’s you. No? Then what are you waiting for?

This year, give yourself a holiday present and upgrade your home to solar. With what you invest upfront, you’ll save money for years. And every time you watch those lights twinkle, you’ll know you’re doing some good for the earth too.

One of the perks of living in California is the sunshine! Unlike many places across the country, we still have a good amount of it in the winter, even if we have more rainy days than the rest of the year.

Don’t worry about the cold, either. Solar panels work just fine when it’s chilly out, according to Solar Query. They can produce energy more efficiently in the winter because of how the sunlight interacts with the neurons (which rest in the cold), creating a bigger voltage differential.

Sunny, California Winters Mean Plenty of Sunshine

One of the perks of living in California is the sunshine! Unlike many places across the country, we still have a good amount of it in the winter, even if we have more rainy days than the rest of the year.

Don’t worry about the cold, either. Solar panels work just fine when it’s chilly out, according to Solar Query. They can produce energy more efficiently in the winter because of how the sunlight interacts with the neurons (which rest in the cold), creating a bigger voltage differential.

So, if anyone tells you solar doesn’t work as well in winter, don’t believe them. It’s just not true. Solar is efficient year-round.

Your Electricity Increases in Winter Months

You use more energy in the winter than in the rest of the year. This makes sense, especially during the holidays, because:

  • You’ve got your holiday lights on
  • The weather is colder, so you’re running the heat more
  • It’s dark earlier, so we’re spending more time indoors and need artificial light
  • You have holiday festivities which probably include more food preparation (who wants to bake cookies!) and holiday music

And that’s just the holidays. Even after the lights come down and the festivities fade, it will be cold and dark by the time you get home from work. So throughout the winter, you can plan on spending more on electricity than you would any other time of the year, which is precisely why having solar would be a huge benefit.

You may live in an HOA and worry about whether or not you can have solar. Nothing to worry about there. The law is on your side to make it easy for any homeowner to install solar.

Tax Credits Can Help Make This Gift to Yourself Possible

At first, you might think you can’t afford solar right now. Inflation is hitting many of us in significant ways. But when you see your energy bill for December, you might realize you can’t afford not to install solar on your home.

The good news is there are still tax credits that can help make switching to solar more affordable. According to the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, “The federal residential solar energy credit is a tax credit that can be claimed on federal income taxes for a percentage of the cost of a solar PV system paid for by the taxpayer.” This past August, the government raised that percentage from 26% to 30%. So now is the time to treat yourself to a holiday gift that will last at least 25 years!

The Gift That Keeps on Giving

If you’re ready to save yourself money during the holidays and beyond, DC Solar can help. We can walk you through how it works, how the panels are installed, and our battery backups. Plus, we can connect you to financial resources and incentives that help make it affordable.

If you still have questions about installing solar, we are more than happy to answer them. Then, you’ll see why more and more California homeowners are adding solar energy to their wish lists this year.
