Our residential service area covers Alpine, Amador, Butte, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Glenn, Lake, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba Counties — while our commercial projects extend across all of California. A Team Built on Expertise
We bring unmatched expertise to every project. Our team has over 40 years of experience as licensed general contractors, more than 20 years as licensed electrical contractors, and over 12 years as licensed solar contractors. We hold both General (B) and Electrical (C10) contractors’ licenses, which means our clients can trust that every part of the job is done right the first time.
Our complete in-house EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) structure sets us apart. Nothing is subcontracted. Our staff handles everything — from custom design to final installation. The results? Flexible designs, dependable installs, and consistent quality.
How It All Began
Behind DC Solar Electric is a story of friendship and vision. Founders Chasin Scott and Derek Stevens came from very different backgrounds. Derek worked in construction and electrical contracting, while Chasin came from PR and technology. The spark for solar came from innovative local financing programs like mPOWER, which made renewable energy more accessible to homeowners.
The first business plan wasn’t written in a boardroom: it was drafted on a cocktail napkin! Soon after, Len Stevens, Derek’s father-in-law, joined the company. Len brought decades of construction experience and introduced the lifetime warranty guarantee that still defines the company today.
Growing the Company
In 2010, we officially launched in Penn Valley. Growth came quickly, fueled by word of mouth and a reputation for doing things right. Our philosophy has always been simple: “We don’t sell solar — solar sells itself. Our job is to do it right, every time.” Today, our company has 10+ employees, and we provide medical benefits, retirement plans, and a family-first culture that mirrors how we treat our customers.
A Landmark Project: Malakoff Diggins
One project stands out as a milestone in our history. We were awarded the contract to take Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park off the grid. The park once depended on diesel generators. Thanks to solar panels and battery storage, it now runs on 100% renewable energy. This project became a model for other historic parks in California and beyond, showcasing the possibilities of sustainable power.
